SUNDAY, 15th MAY.
Leaving Barstow in the late morning after a restful night's sleep, we visited Calico Ghost Town, a former silver mining town which in its heyday produced $86 million in silver and boasted a population of 1,200 with 22 saloons, China Town and a red light district. It turned out to be a very worthwhile stop which lasted three hours before we continued the journey, which included a lengthy 6% gradient into Las Vegas.
