Costa Brava

Fri:  16th May.  We didn’t leave Benicassim until 2.00p.m., deciding to first ride on the via Verde (a disused railway line converted into a cycle/pedestrian path) to Orpesa, about 7 kms north, and this we did this morning.

It was a lovely ride, though a bit bumpy at times, through a couple of tunnels, one quite long,

and with views of the Mediterranean for most of the journey.

Once there, we had coffee and churros in a café overlooking the beach, sitting in the morning sunshine, admiring the view.

We rode along the promenade when we returned to Benicassim, taking a photo or two of Villa Isabel which is for sale and which we decided to buy ‘when’ we win lotto!

Mike also took a photo of our bikes and the WC nearby, which we definitely will not buy!

After returning to camp and polishing off the remainder of yesterday’s fruit salad, we packed up and departed, heading north for L’Ampolla, near a fishing village and close to the Ebro delta.  There are apparently flamingos quite near, and the village just around the bay looks interesting but we’re saving them for the morning…when we arrived here it was very windy, too windy to go riding and at 9.00p.m. has only just died down…a bit late and a bit too dark now to go chasing flamingos!

White fish, the name of which I don’t know, cooked on the ‘pseudo’ barbecue and accompanied by a salad, was tonight’s dinner…very tasty.
