Towards Annecy

Saturday, 9th May.

Another late morning, mostly due to the constant drizzle but once the weather cleared a little we went for a walk around town, stopping for coffee at a hotel/bar where we met the Scottish couple we'd talked to yesterday.  We had a look at the menu thinking we might have lunch there, but weren't tempted by anything on offer so Mike just bought a couple of Portuguese tarts there and we headed back to the canal and Boris, stopping on the way to purchase a loaf and an f.a. cream cake and had our lunch in a picnic area along the road.
Unfortunately, Mike stepped in something nasty and not realising it was on his shoes, walked through the van spreading it everywhere so a major clean up was necessary before we could continue on our merry way.  We laugh about it now but at the time it wasn't at all pleasant!
Our chosen overnighter was at Digoin but on arrival there we found that there was a large carnival in progress on the very spot where the aire is.  Checking the Camperstop book revealed that the next aire was at Charolles, 28kms east so shortly after we were parked near a river, sitting in the sunshine with shorts on, enjoying the peace and quiet of the countryside. This aire is adjacent to a camping ground with free wifi so we were able to catch up on emails etc.

We wanted to stay in Digoin last year and the carnival was on too. We then headed to Paray le Monial, great spot near the canal and a beautiful town if you ever get the chance. All the best M&M
