Monday, 13th July.
It rained steadily through last night and a heavy mist was hanging over the valley this morning when we woke, so we thought for a while that we would have to postpone our visit to Krimml and the drive through Gerlos Pass. However, by the time we'd had breakfast and completed all the usual morning tasks, the rain had eased to a drizzle and the mist had lifted considerably so we set off. The waterfall is amazing, we walked part way up the steep path
to get different views but didn't go to the top, we have to make concessions for our aging legs! Before leaving Krimml, we called in at the Krimmler Hotel for the coffee and cake which was included in the parking fee...just one was included, we paid for the other which we didn't mind...the coffee was good but the cake was ordinary, I'm sorry to say!
On then through Gerlos Pass (1628 metres) with stops for photos of course and once down at ground level again we called in to Lidl's Supermarket in Zell am Zeller to stock up on supplies and while in the car park poring over maps, we were approached by a NZ lady who we chatted to for 15 minutes or so . She lives in nearby Mayrhofen and has done so for 8 years. It was very nice talking to her and I think she was glad to speak English to fellow Down Underers! We decided then to go into Germany as the border was only about 20kms away so drove through more fabulous countryside to Fall, near Lenggries to spend the night in a lovely forest.
