Albertshofen - Main River

Wednesday, 5th August.
After a noisy night on Sunday, with sirens blaring and cars racing up and down the road outside, we decided to leave Bamberg on Monday morning and move to a quieter, more rural place.  Before we left, Mike rode to the town for internet purposes and to a bike shop to purchase a tool to fix my bike and then we were on our way...only about 20 kms to Eltmann am Main where we have spent the last couple of days,

riding to nearby Zeil am Main on Monday and apart from a couple of short rides, have spent most of the time sitting by the river in the shade of the trees,

watching the passing parade on the water...cruise boats, barges big and small and private boats of varying sizes, some towing water skiers.  It has been rather hot for the last couple of days, a brief storm with gale force winds occurred late yesterday afternoon, sending all the motorhomers scurrying for shelter and resulting in a welcome drop in the temperature.
We left lovely Eltmann this morning to go across country to Albertshofen, also on the Main River and will stay here for two nights.  It has been a little cooler today and we rode 5kms to Kitzingen this afternoon, first crossing the river on a passenger/car ferry @ €0.70 each to Mainstockheim, and rode back on the opposite side of the river.

Tomorrow is expected to be hot so we plan to leave early to ride to Dettelbach...I think it's north but the river winds so much it's hard to be sure which direction you're taking.  Mike had a swim in the river this afternoon to cool off and no doubt there'll be some more of that tomorrow.  I can hear the four young men who are sitting at a table in the river, playing cards and drinking beer...well maybe no longer playing cards as it's too dark to see but a great way to keep cool and they're enjoying themselves, occasionally breaking out in song.  Mike took a photo.

Footnote :  It has been a mission of Mike's to find a beer he can't drink...so far he hasn't found one but came close today!
