SAN FRANCISCO 2

WEDNESDAY, 29th JUNE.

We woke this morning to a gloomy, grey day so sensibly donned long pants and fleeces before setting off to explore the streets of San Francisco by car, tram, trolley car, cable car and by foot.  Our first cable car ride was on the shortest and least popular of the three routes available, was great fun and we didn't need to queue....bonus!  It was such good fun that we decided to have a second ride (on one of the other two routes) later in the day, and even though we had to wait in line in the bitterly cold wind for about an hour, it was well worth it....a highlight of our stay here.
Unfortunately, the fog which shrouded the Golden Gate Bridge yesterday was still hanging around but we managed to see a good part of it so we were happy about that, we've had a fabulous day and have thoroughly enjoyed our time here, even though we're not big city people and would have been happy to stay a little longer. Our motel is in a district which is on the border of 'dodgy' but is the cheapest we could find in San Francisco (though the most expensive accommodation we've had in America), is within walking distance of the main shopping and business districts so is in a very convenient location.
Tomorrow, we head to Lake Tahoe.
