Barradale

BARRADALE REST AREA
Friday, 3rd July.
There was little wind when we left Quobba this morning, the sun was shining and it was already quite warm.  After an hour's driving, we pulled into a parking spot for a walk around and were just about to leave when another Geist caravan pulled in, larger than ours but we don't see many of that make and we chatted with the owners, Michael and Sylvia, originally from Berlin and who have lived in Australia for 50 years.

Along the way, we saw several little groups of cattle walking in single file inside the fence line and wondered where they were going.

Further along the road there was a larger group all lying in a grassy area,  "replete" as a wiry drover in Camooweal, NT told us ten years ago so we assumed that was where 'our' cattle were headed, where the feed was!
We stopped at Minilya Roadhouse for fuel, and icecream,

then again at Lyndon River Rest Area where we made and ate lunch, tooting and waving at Michael & Sylvia as they were leaving.

The last time we were there, we walked along the dry river bed but there is now a fence with a chained and padlocked gate preventing access.  It's a pretty spot and we had planned to stay overnight but decided to go on to Barradale, arrived at about 2.30pm, chose our spot and sat in the shade for a while as the temperature was 31 degrees by that time.  I went for a walk to the bridge over the Yannarie River

which is dry, we sat outside to bbq, eat  dinner and stargaze and at 8pm have only just come inside as it is starting to cool.

There are probably a couple of dozen caravans and campers parked here but it is very quiet, especially now that a neighbour has turned his generator off.
