Port Samson

POINT SAMSON
Sunday, 5th July.
It was a short drive this morning from Maitland River to Karratha where we stopped to buy some supplies.  It's a long time since we'd been there and were amazed at how much it's grown.  From there we drove to Point Samson where we had booked in for 3 nights.
It was very, very windy today from early morning till late in the afternoon but it's a lovely spot here and we're looking forward to a mini holiday, doing nothing much for the next couple of days.  Cheryl & Mark who are parked behind us are from Yarloop en-route to Broome to visit family and we enjoyed 'Happy Hour' with them at the tavern

and when  strolling back to bbq the pork chops we bought in Karratha (they were delicious!), we were awestruck at seeing  the "Staircase to the Moon".

POINT SAMSON - 2
Monday, 6th July.
I woke early this morning and couldn't go back to sleep so as soon as it was light, I dressed, grabbed my phone/camera and went for a walk along the path to Honeymoon Cove, a very pretty spot, especially at that time of day.

There was nobody about on the outgoing walk but on the return, several dogs were out taking their people for a walk.  It was discombobulating to see the sun rise over the ocean but it was a spectacular sight, I was so glad I'd been in the right place at the right time to see it and to take a few photos.

It was wash day today and that done, we went for a little drive around the town before spending the rest of the day doing very little.  We spent another 'Happy Hour' at the tavern with neighbours Cheryl & Mark, shared a Fisherman's Platter and were interested to see four members of the Wildcats join the happy throng.  They are in the Pilbara conducting basketball clinics for the local youngsters.

POINT SAMSON - 3
Tuesday, 7th July.
We farewelled Cheryl & Mark at 8am as they left to continue their journey north and over breakfast, we decided that we would go no further north than Port Hedland on this trip and after tomorrow night in that town, we plan to visit Marble Bar for a night or two, after which we will start a slow journey south and homewards.  The original thought was that if borders were open by the time we reached Kununurra, we'd travel into NT, across to QLD and from there into NSW, spending time there with family before heading homewards but there is no point going all that way to find that we can't go any further so we will wait at home until we have the all clear.
In the meantime, we are enjoying the sunshine, the travel, meeting interesting people (our next door neighbour from Qld was travelling in the SW when lockdown occurred, will be here until September...his wife is working in the office here and he has part time work) and this morning drove into Roebourne for a look see, we've been past before but never stopped there.  We stopped for a while and watched the Wildcats put a group of boys, and a couple of girls, through their paces on the basketball court, drove up Mt Welcome for views of the town,

the Harding River and the ocean in the distance,

some interesting old buildings which have been restored

The Court House Late 1800's

and have had another lazy afternoon.  One would think we're on holidays!
