FRIDAY : 2nd Sept. We left Perth Airport at 7p.m., an hour later than scheduled, on the first leg of our journey, arriving in Singapore just before midnight. It was the first time we'd flown with Scoot, choosing that airline because their airfares were little more than half the cost for two than we'd have paid for just one with any of the other airlines. Flying with Scoot you get what you pay for which is nothing other than a seat on a plane, but we think it was fine for the purpose, saving a lot on the fares and would use them again.
All the Singapore Airport food outlets were either closed or in the process of closing when we arrived, so we bought a sandwich and a fruit drink from the mini market in the airport to see us through till our arrival in Athens, before embarking on the second leg of the journey, which was also late leaving, although our pilots did a very good job of making up time as we arrived at 9a.m., a few minutes before scheduled.
SATURDAY : 3rd Sept. After queuing for a very long time to go through immigration, we then had a very, very long walk through the airport to the exit. missing the train we'd planned to take to Piraeus but able to grab seats for the 1 hour bus ride there, as it was about to leave. Feeling rather hot and jaded by the time we reached Piraeus, on the short walk to the hotel we found a shady, outdoor bar/cafe called "Darling" where we relaxed and cooled off a little with cold drinks before checking in early to our room. Once we'd showered and changed into shorts we went out in search of food and chose a Souvlaki cafe opposite the port, where we could watch the ferries coming and going. Back at the hotel after a stroll around, a snooze in the air conditioning was the next big event and we emerged in the evening to wander around the town, stopping again at "Darling" for a delicious shared pizza accompanied by beer and wine.

In the evening we strolled down to the nearby beach for dinner at one of the cafe/bars there. |
MONDAY : 5th Sept. We woke early this morning having had a much better sleep than on the previous night and sat out on the balcony in the cool breeze, watching the sun come up and listening to the neighbourhood roosters competing for the loudest crowing trophy. Viktoria had left a complimentary breakfast pack for us as the supermarkets are closed on Sundays and we weren't able to buy any provisions until we went out today. Our outing was to Plaka, 5kms away as the crow flies, along sometimes narrow, winding roads up in the higher country. The bus fares cost 3.60 euros return each, and after morning tea in a lovely cafe,
which we couldn't finish (the waiter suggested we take it with us and supplied us with a lovely carry box for it), we strolled through the town, taking many photos.
Back in the port of Adamanta, we visited the supermarket, bought some goodies and strolled along the waterside back 'home' . We're about to have dinner and plan to explore this lovely island a little more tomorrow.
