SERIFOS Cont'd

SATURDAY, 17th September : After a quiet morning swimming, reading and a lunch using up what food we still had in the fridge, we strolled into town to collect our hire car, then went driving up the east coast to Platis Gialos in the north.  We were a little underwhelmed by the beaches we could access by road, which number very few, though the bays we could view from the road were stunning.

On our return to Livadi, we stopped at a restaurant on the beach for dinner.  Mike ordered a sea stew consisting of shrimps, mussels, squid & squid ink rice and although I don't usually eat spaghetti in public as it is not a dainty dish to eat,

I ordered spaghetti with shrimp & lobster bisque and it was simply delicious.
Mike declared his stew magnificent so we were both happy with our choices.

We had a little trouble finding our way home once we were out of the town as the streets are extremely narrow and winding, street lights are practicallly non existent so unless one is familiar with the area, it is difficult to tell which are streets and which are no-through laneways.   I'm happy to say that we got there!!

SUNDAY, 18th September.  Our last day on Serifos.  After packing and checking out, we headed up the west coast which we found considerably more attractive and inviting than the east.  Serifos is a very, very rocky and hilly island,

with some good roads

and some just plain awful, but this was not the worst!

We don't know how high some of the hills are but thought at times that if we went much higher we'd need wings, and a jet engine!  We took many photos, stopped at bays along the way for drinks, and for lunch, each time on the beachfront.

We drove along some rough roads through some desolate countryside, marvelled at the way many houses and villages seem to cling rather perilously to the rocky hills and wondered what the locals do for a living.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable day and on returning to the port, we had just over an hour until the ferry was due to arrive so left our bags at the car rental office and went to a cafe where we sat for a while and ate ice creams before wandering up to the ferry pier to wait.  The ferry was 3/4 hour late arriving which didn't amuse us much but after an uneventful 2 hour crossing,

Yassas Serefos

we arrived in Paros, our 4th and final island, at 8.30pm.
