SATURDAY, 26th AUGUST : WIPFELD to HASSFURT

It rained quite heavily through the night but fortunately had cleared by this morning.  We set off after breakfast for the ride to Hassfurt with a brief stop in Garstadt, (6kms away) to visit Weingut Gessner as I'd enjoyed a glass of their very drinkable white wine last night at dinner and it is also the name of a good friend back home.  The shop was closed so we could just take a photo or two

We pressed on in the cool morning, going some way away from the river until we reached  Schweinfurt, choosing not to explore as it seemed rather too large and too busy for our liking

The bridge at Schweinfurt

The fire brigade was out in force, testing out their hoses but stopped just as we were about to take a picture

We rode on, stopping now and then to ease the saddle soreness

and to take a photo or three

We went into a couple of small towns along the way in search of a cafe, but could not find one that was open

until this

a self service kiosk with an honesty box!!  We'd never seen anything like it and were amazed.  We bought a couple of cold drinks and left a thank you message in the book provided.

With just 7 and a half kms to ride to reach Hassfurt, we continued on,  had no trouble finding our hotel, checking in

and locking the bikes up in the garage provided.  (It's okay, I let him out).

The hotel has a lift which is a bonus, no air conditioning which is not but otherwise fits the bill and  breakfast is included in the price

the hotel is right near the market square and we have been for a wander through town taking a photo or two

Our hotel.

The temperature dropped quite suddenly this afternoon, necessitating the wearing of jackets to go out in search of an evening meal, and there was a lot rain which seems to have cleared now.  We have 36km left to ride tomorrow in order to reach Bamberg, our final destination on the cycle holiday, so would really rather prefer a rain free day but it's not looking good at this stage.  We'll be there for two nights, returning the bikes to Frankfurt (by train) on Tuesday.
