SUNDAY, 10th SEPTEMBER : KAISERSLAUTEN to TRITTENHEIM.

We had breakfast this morning at a nearby cafe before we left Kaiserslauten.  Our stocks are almost depleted but we don't need to add to them at this stage.

Leaving Kairserslauten

For the first few kilometres we drove on the A6 motorway, but though it's quick, it's also a bit boring so we took to the back roads for the rest of the journey, going past patchwork countryside and through small towns.

We got lost a couple of times but managed to find ourselves and stopped at Fischbach to check out a motorhome parking place we saw from the road, and to have a break.

Continuing on from Fischbach, we drove along winding, sometimes narrow roads until seeing a sign which intrigued us, mainly because we didn't quite understand what it meant, we turned off to find a Nature Park which caters for sports such as mountain biking with multiple tracks through the forest, snow skiing, zip lines also through the forest, walking tracks and cycle tracks, and....sommerrodelbahnen (summer tobogganing, Mike's favourite).  He had a ride, declared it the worst one he'd been on but he had to try it, we can't come to Germany without having a ride on the rodelbahn.

It wasn't a long way further to our chosen overnight stop at Trittenheim on the Mosel River, our fourth visit here but only one previous stopover, probably one of our favourite places.

Stunning scenes coming down the hill into Trittenheim

Crossing the river

The view from the motorhome

It's very busy here and we thought there might not be a place for us but there was, and we've spent a lazy, relaxing afternoon sitting in the shade by the river, watching half a dozen barges, one cruise boat, one canoe, several small boats and a few jet skis go by as well as countless cyclists pedalling along on the other side of the river.
