 SUNDAY, 3rd SEPTEMBER : In SAVERNE (F)

Today was a rest day, we decided this morning to stay here in Saverne another night and do as little as possible, and we succeeded!

It was lovely and cool this morning, after a cuppa we strolled into town, watched a couple of boats go through the locks

and spent the best part of some time just wandering through the town, admiring the wonderful old buildings and the colourful flowers in pots throughout.

The Municipal School of Music

Statue in Place du General de Gaulle of Louise Weiss, one of the foremost European journalists and experts on international afffairs of the twentieth century.  She is considered an architect of European unity and is best known for her campaigns on behalf of the peaceful resolution of international conflicts both during the interwar years and during the Cold War.

A photo had to suffice as we couldn't get into the crowded bakery

The Mairie (Town Hall)

The bakery was busy, the queue went out the door and into the street so we bought a baguette from the Carrefours Express market which we took back to camp for a late breakfast.  After that, Mike had a snooze, I managed to stay awake and brought my travel diary up to date and did some puzzles and later, we wandered back into town, visited the museum

but didn't stay long as it was rather musty inside and we both began to feel a bit 'off'.

After a cold drink in the shade of one of the many cafes in the town, we began to feel somewhat better and we strolled back to camp to sit in the shade and enjoy the rest of our day off.
