BIG SKY, MONTANA.

THURSDAY, 16th JUNE.

After a good night's sleep in a lovely, comfortable bed, we drove up the mountain to the resort and for $14 each, bought tickets for the two chairlifts that were operating today. It was a little overcast and rather cold, so we donned beanies, jackets and scarves for the first of the chairlift rides, a 15 minute journey up, up, up...a spectacular ride with wonderful views of Lone Peak, a triangular mountain with many ski runs, popular with skiers in the winter, and of the valley below.  The ride down again, after a short walk around, was just as spectacular.  The second journey was even colder than the first, though not as long and we stopped in at the restaurant at the top for a cup of hot coffee to warm us for the down journey.
It was early afternoon by this time and we drove south into Idaho and sunshine, crossing the Continental Divide yet again, travelling through farming country and taking a little detour to Upper and Lower Mesa Falls, on the Warm River.  A lovely diversion on the way to Idaho Falls, 'home' for the next two nights.
