Thursday, 15th June.
The wifi connection we had in Kimba was very, very slow and not at all strong so we still haven't published any blog entries.
After packing up this morning and taking photos of the murals painted on the walls of the recreation buildings, we drove a couple of kms north of town to Whites Knob lookout to view the sculptures of Edward John Eyre and his Aboriginal tracker before leaving Kimba at 8.30a.m. Neither of us was hungry before we left so drove for about an hour, then stopped at a rest place and cooked a breakfast of sausages and eggs to sustain us for the next leg of the journey.
There was a distinct change of scenery today as we had the Flinders Ranges in sight for most of the day....we stopped at Big W in Port Augusta for some bits and pieces for the caravan, then drove through Horrocks Pass in the ranges to Wilmington where we had our lunch at the Centenary Park. It was a quite scenic drive from there to Orroroo where we booked into the caravan park. Once we'd settled in, we did the rubber-necking tourist thing, checking out the giant gum tree and the view from Tank Hill, then after freshening up with hot showers, we strolled the 300 metres into the town centre, visited one of the two pubs here where we chatted to fellow travellers, a couple from Brisbane, and exchanged friendly banter involving AFL teams with the barman and other patrons....a very enjoyable exchange.
There is wifi available here but it too is a very weak signal so we're hopeful that we'll have more success in Broken Hill tomorrow.
