Penong to Kimba : 386km

Wednesday, 14th June.

After leaving Penong, the "Windmill" town at 9.20a.m. (13 degrees), our first port of call was Ceduna, stopping at the quarantine station just outside of town for inspection.  Fortunately, we've been through before so knew the drill and had left the little bit of fruit we had with us in Penong, intending to stock up with new stuff at the Ceduna IGA.   When we picked ourselves up off the floor after seeing the prices of their tomatoes, onions, fruit, etc., we decided to forgo the luxury of these items for a couple of days until we can, hopefully, find affordable fruit and veges at a larger town.

We stopped at Poochera for a fuel top up but as the parking area next to the service station was a dust bowl, we pushed on for another 30 odd kms to Minnipa Apex Park which we made our lunch stop.  There was an incident with the fridge, someone had neglected to put the catch on the door, resulting in the contents, including our newly bought eggs, being strewn across the floor.  Surprisingly, only two were broken so no real damage done, other than a bit of a mess.  The toilets in the park are interesting and warranted a photo.

In my opinion, the stretch of highway between Ceduna and Iron Knob is the most tedious part of the journey and not much to write about.  We drove through farming country today, but as the little I know about farming is very little, I can't really say what crops were growing....they seemed to be just recently planted.  There were a few small flocks of sheep grazing in the paddocks and we saw only one roadkill victim today, an improvement on Monday's high rate of carnage.

We are in Kimba for the night, at the recreation ground where there is a large number of RVs camped....it is free but donations are accepted for the upkeep of the facilities available.  After we'd parked the caravan, we visited the pub in town for a quiet one and were able to connect there to wifi, the first time in 5 days so could check our emails.
