Cervar Porat : Porec

Wednesday, 3rd June.

We left Novigrad this morning with the intention of visiting nearby Lanterna, but after crossing a causeway and driving down the road towards the town, we saw that there was a barrier up ahead so quickly pulled off the road and took a vote which resulted in me being nominated to walk the 100 metres to the barrier to see if I could find out what the problem was.  The guard there told me we could not take motor homes down to the beach but could stay parked where we were and walk...there was a slight language problem but I believe he said it was 1 or 2 km and when I relayed this information to the others, it was decided that as we really didn't know what to expect if we did walk or ride down to the beach, or how steep the climb was, we should give Lanterna a miss and move on, which is just what we did.
A few kms down the road we came to Cervar Porat, a quiet, attractive though somewhat neglected looking coastal village and a stroll down the main street to the small beach where we had coffee at one of the cafes, gave the impression that it may have once been a vibrant community, now in need of a lot of TLC.
A little further on and we stopped at Porec, another old coastal town, though unlike Cervar Porat, extremely busy with tourists everywhere.  The World Volleyball Tournament was being held there this week, Mike ducked into the venue for a few minutes (free entry) and saw the Germans beat the Chileans in the men's competition and we all enjoyed a leisurely stroll through this very busy, old town needing to stop for drinks before leaving as it was quite hot!
Our final stop for today was at a camp site between Funtana and Vrsar where we have booked in for two nights.  This camp is enormous, the size of a small town, situated on the waterfront with rocky beaches and beautiful clear blue waters.  We plan to have a relaxing couple of days here, the weather has warmed up quite considerably so there won't be a lot of activity.
