Banjole, Croatia

Sunday, 7th June

On Thursday 4th, after a lazy day at the camp site spent swimming, bike riding, reading, snoozing etc., we attended a Bavarian Bier Fest at the camp's Pizzeria Kantineta where a jolly time was had by all.  Our friendly waitress was the lovely Krystina, a hard worker who enjoyed her work and for whom nothing was too  much trouble.  Mike won third prize in the raffle, 1 litre of beer which he struggled to lift and which he and Les shared.
We were on the road again on Friday 5th, with a stop at Rovinj, another old town with steep, narrow and somewhat slippery cobblestones, with plenty of souvenir shops, plenty of tourists and plenty of photo opportunities.   After a couple of hours exploring, we hit the road again and headed south to Banjole, booking in to a small camp site for one night, staying tonight for what will be our third night.  Diana and Kristian, the mother and son owners run this small, quiet and peaceful campsite which has an awesome swimming pool maintained at a perfect temperature and plenty of shade and we will be reluctant to leave when the time comes.  Since arriving on Friday, we have ridden up and down hills and rough coastal tracks exploring beaches and boat harbours, dipped in and out of the pool, been swimming in the Adriatic, loving being here and enjoying the laid back ambience of the region.  Tourists are catered for in this area with several campsites to choose from and a few resorts etc. but it retains an unspoilt charm...and...we have the distinction of being the first Australians to stay at this camp.
