As we were driving from Wald to Bad Waldsee earlier today, I couldn't help thinking that the farming country along the way could easily be mistaken for a giant golf course, the fields are so well tended that there doesn't seem to be a blade of grass out of place and resemble golfing fairways!
The town of Bad Waldsee is about 1km from the camperstop so we rode the bikes in to explore, first riding a little way alongside the lake,
The town of Bad Waldsee is about 1km from the camperstop so we rode the bikes in to explore, first riding a little way alongside the lake,
stopping for coffee and yummy f.a.cream cakes before entering the old town.
A wander around the town resulted in us finding camping chair pads for €5.99 each, a notice advertising a concert in the church tonight by a soprano, an organist and a flautist, and drinks in one of the bars in the town. After dinner at 'home', we rode back into town to find a brass band playing in the square to the enjoyment of a couple of hundred people, so watched and listened for a while before going into the church.
It was a rather weird experience, the soprano sang beautifully, the organist and the flautist played but we couldn't see any of them and couldn't work out where they were! A red shirted man stood by the altar at intervals and spoke, we didn't understand what he was saying, he disappeared, then there was music. We stayed a while and thinking we could just as well be listening to a c.d., we went back to the square and listened, and watched, the brass band.
Thursday, 16th July.
It was very quiet when we went for an early ride around the lake this morning, before it became too hot. Back to Boris afterwards for breakfast then packed up and drove 3.5kms to the Hymer Sales and Service Centre,
in the hope of buying a small replacement part for Boris's stabilising legs. No such luck, they don't make that part any more, you have to buy a whole new leg! We're not going to do that but will get it repaired when we can, rather than replace it. A little further down the road is the Erwin Hymer Museum so we paid a visit to this interesting establishment. Not knowing where we were going after that, after talking to a man from Ipswich, U K in the car park, we decided to drive 25kms or so to Ravensburg, where we will stay tonight and as it has now cooled a little, will shortly go for a ride into the town which is less than 1km away.
