Apart from the drenching a couple of weeks ago, we've been lucky with the weather but knew that our luck would run out one day....today was the day! Rain and thunderstorms were predicted so we had two choices....to complete the next leg of our journey by train today or to stay here in Eichstatt for another night and hope for an improvement in the weather tomorrow. As we've been looking forward to riding along the next section of the Altmuhl and have a train ride planned after that, we chose the latter option.
We've had an easy day of rest with a couple of little walks around the town (in between the showers), a large old town with cobbled streets, narrow lanes, several churches, a university, lots of cafes/restaurants/bars and many bakeries where a variety of breads and yummy f.a. cream cakes can be purchased.
On our wanderings, we visited the Dom to find a service in progress with a couple of hundred people in attendance
and there was a fresh flower, fruit & vegetable market being held in one of the town squares.
What we've found a little strange is that although there is quite a lot of traffic through the town, it is quite quiet with few pedestrians around.
We've enjoyed our enforced day off and will have an early night in order to get an early start in the morning.....fingers crossed.
