KLEIN POCHLARN to GREIN : 36kms

Thursday, 3rd May, 2018.

It was sunny though a little cool when we started off this morning and had only just joined the cycle path when we had to stop to take our first photo of the day....the Danube was like a mirror and Pochlarn on the other side of the river was reflected in the still waters, looking very picturesque.

The path was excellent until we came across some serious construction work, path closed and we were redirected through a couple of very pretty villages.  We were amused by the imagination of some of the residents who had decorated their woodpiles

and shortly after rejoining the cycle path spotted a group of funny little twig people,

stopped to take a photo and chatted for a while with a trio of lovely young German girls from the Black Forest who were cycling to Vienna.

Our next stop was for morning coffee in Persenbeug

and shortly after, we stopped along the path where there were lovely, colourful gardens in what we thought to be holiday homes once and now seem to be permanent residences.

We sat for a while, feeling the serenity, then continued on to Grein, part of the way on a cycle lane on the road as the cycle path had ended.

We had lunch in a cafe in Grein

where we met and chatted to 2 couples from Brisbane who had cruised from Passau to Bratislava and were returning in stages, by bike, staying each night on their cruise boat.  After chatting with them we rode up a very big hill to our accommodation....at least we rode most of the way as even when we went into turbo mode, it was a struggle and the last bit was achieved by walking and pushing and puffing!

When we went back into town later sans luggage, we found it a great deal easier and we were able to make it back all the way up the hill.  Dinner tonight consisted of snacks and beer as having had a large lunch, a large evening meal was not required.  It was very pleasant sitting and relaxing on the balcony admiring the view.

All in all, a fabulous day!
