It was overcast and cool this morning, apparently there had been a storm through the night with thunder, lightning, the works but yours truly did not hear a thing, I must have been unconscious!
There were market stalls in the main square of town this morning which we noticed as we were leaving so we stopped to have a look around. It was mostly clothing on sale but we did buy two cakes to take with us to have for 'smoko' later on.
It was pleasant riding today, the path was excellent and when it veered away from the river for a few kms, it took us through lovely farming country and a couple of small villages, onto a quiet road with minimal traffic before returning to the river.
We stopped at Mitterkirchen to eat our yummy cakes,
and up the road a little way at a cycle cafe where we had coffee. While looking at a large map of the area, we were joined by and got talking to a couple from south of Passau who were on a cycling holiday, though they were going in the opposite direction from us, us are most of the cyclists we see on the path.
The next stop was in Au on the Danube where we had a light lunch and where we had eaten before.....3 years ago when we stayed in nearby Naarn with Boris, so it was all very familiar.
On reaching Mauthausen, we took a little ferry ride across the river
in order to follow the R1 then R7 cycle paths to Enns,
our overnight stop and later we walked the short distance to the old town, where we shared a very good pizza. Enns is the oldest town in Austria, dating back to 1212.
