We were reluctant to leave Wernstein this morning, our hotel room was so comfortable and the location so peaceful....we could feel the serenity!
After a sumptuous breakfast including freshly cooked eggs and HOT coffee we did leave, crossing the bridge from Austria into Germany and riding alongside the River Inn to Passau.
Along the way we chatted to one of the many walkers on the path, an elegant German lady walking her dog and once again the conversation was a mixture of German, English and sign language.
Other walkers on the path included a medley of mums (with their infants strapped on their chests or backs) marching along while talking as fast as they were walking.
The path was gravel for most of the way though much smoother than the one on the opposite side of the river, where we had ridden yesterday and apart from a couple of small hills it was an easy ride.
There were several cruise ships moored in Passau and we spoke to a few Australians, a Kiwi and an American (all cruise passengers) as we passed by but didn't stop in the city as we 'd spent some time there on our last visit.
After crossing the Danube via the lock a few kilometres out of Passau, we continued our ride to Windorf, stopping at about the half way mark at a cafe where we'd had a meal on our previous visit and we are now in our hotel in Windorf,
Cruising the Danube.
The Danube from our window.
It has rained a little but fortunately we didn't get caught in it, tomorrow is a holiday so most businesses will be closed but no doubt a few cafes/restaurants/bars will be open so we won't go hungry....or thirsty and we look forward to a peaceful night's sleep after another lovely day.
