GLOMEL to PORT CAHAIX

TUESDAY, 11th JUNE, 2019

Rain, rain and more rain.  Mike bravely rode to a supermarket in Glomel for food supplies and on his return we set off back to the canal path.  We'd gone about 6 kms when the rain stopped and spying a little cafe at a camping place, which had a shed full of canoes, we stopped there and while drinking our coffee, got talking to a young German couple, from Liepzig, who were on a 2-1/2 month cycling holiday towing a trailer with a tent and their two young children....a little girl about 4 years old and a little boy of about 8 or 9 months.  The parents had spent 18 months travelling and working in Australia from 2010 to 2019.

There was no option other than to continue riding through the rain, along La Grande Tranchee, a series of locks and a remarkable feat considering the lack of machinery and technology available at the time of construction.  An absolutely beautiful section of the canal, it's a shame we weren't able to fully enjoy it.

By the time we reached our destination, formerly a lock keeper's cottage now a chambres d'hote,

the rain had eased and having full use of a fully equipped two bedrooom house, we made the most of it and had a lazy, warm and dry afternoon, watched a match of the Women's Soccer World Cup between the Kiwis and the Netherlands which the Dutch ladies won in the ninetieth minute, read a bit, slept a bit and cooked a meal.  It was very quiet and peaceful, no near neighbours within cooee and a welcome respite from the weather.

At 9pm the sun was shining brightly, the sky was blue with just a couple of fluffy white clouds!
What rain?
