PONTIVY
THURSDAY, 6th JUNE, 2019
The weather here is quite strange, early this morning it was misty with a very light shower, then the sun came out but it was still raining, then the rain stopped and the sky turned blue with just a hint of a dark cloud hovering, then the sky was almost black and the rain was heavy, then it cleared and the sky was blue once again, then it was overcast but no rain....it's difficult to know what to wear when venturing outdoors
Although we intended to stay here for only one night, when we arrived yesterday we booked a second night to allow Mike's ankle time to recover. It is a little better, not as painful as it was but he's been cautious and not overdone the walking etc., just a short walk to the bar/tabac 90 metres from the hotel for coffee this morning and to the patisserie across the road for a pain au chocolat. I took a load of washing downstairs to the hotel laundry service and by late morning, Mike's ankle had improved sufficiently for him to be able to cycle into the old part of town and walk around a little.
The rain came down again as we arrived so we ducked under an awning until it eased, then found a cafe/restaurant where we had lunch, a delicious beef bourgignon which was so good we could have had a double helping each, but we didn't! A short stroll around, then back to the bikes for the ride back to the hotel and on the way, we stumbled upon a stage of the Women's Cycle Tour of Brittany, which is being held between the 5th and 9th of June and just happened to be in Pontivy today.
We stopped and watched the ladies cycle a few laps through the town, they are all absolutely amazing and go so fast they make one's head spin....and I thought I was pretty smart when reaching 28 kph cruising downhill!!
