THURSDAY, 24th AUGUST : RANDERSACKER to SULZFELD

Our first stop this morning after leaving Randersacker was about 5kms away in Eibelstadt, an historic city founded in 787 in the time of Charles the Great.  It has a completely preserved city wall (including the "Kereturm" (tower) from 1573

The next stop was in Sommerhausen, practically next door to Eibelstadt, which has been an important municipality of the Main since the Middle Ages.  It is a market town, and all buildings in the town centre in the narrow, winding streets look back on several hundred years of history.

The town hall dates from the 16th Century

The medieval city wall has been preserved.

Twenty minutes after leaving Sommerhausen, we were led up the garden path by directions written in chalk on the cycle path, to a cafe.  Being ready for coffee by then, we followed the directions, turning off the cycle path onto a cobbled path between two sports fields to a building, which seemed to be a club house not a cafe but was closed anyway.

Not to worry, we were only minutes away from Ochsenfurt

so we crossed the river and rode on the cobblestones to the centre of town where we found a cafe and ordered cold drinks.

While sipping our drinks and people watching, this father/daughter combination rode past.  Papa's bike was loaded up with what looked like camping gear and had a tow bar arrangement for his daughter's bike, she was carrying her toy dog and was very cute.

After drinks and a chat to a fellow rider who had camping gear on his bike, we strolled around the town

Our planned walk around town in the cool of the evening was cut short by rain but nevertheless, it was yet another enjoyable day!
