Fraser Range to Jilah Rockhole : 532km

Monday, 12th June.

It was 7 degrees when we dragged ourselves from bed this morning, chilly but not as cold as it was yesterday.  An emu grazed nonchalantly on the range behind the caravan, I think he may be used to humans and when we arrived here yesterday afternoon, there was a horse and a calf wandering around the caravan park...they too were obviously used to humans.

We left at 7.30a.m., first stop Balladonia for fuel...the temperature by then had climbed to 17 degrees.  34 kms east of Balladonia is the beginning of the 145km straight stretch of road, one of the longest straight stretches in the world.  It was on this stretch that we were passed by a stretch limo...you don't see many of those driving across the country!   We also saw our first cyclist but I'm happy to say that he was the passee and not the passer.  We had another fuel top up at Cocklebiddy and advanced our timepieces by 3/4 hour so we're now on Central Western Time.

We were once again surrounded by birds when we stopped at a rest stop for lunch, small yellow beaked ones whose name I don't know and several big, black crows but I'm afraid to say that they were disappointed.

The only kangaroos we saw today were dead ones, and lots of them....roadkill, more than likely struck by the huge road trains which would no doubt swat them away like flies and not even notice.

106km east of Madura at Jilah Rockhole, we found our overnight stop....there are only 3 or 4 other caravans here and it is a quiet spot so we shouldn't have any problems sleeping.
