Au a.d. Donau

Tuesday, 7th July.
Leaving Aggsbach Markt this morning, we drove to nearby Melk, thinking that we would park and wander around the old town and Melk Abbey.  Unfortunately, we found no parking in the vicinity of the town, saw loads of tourists as we drove down one of the narrow streets and decided to give Melk a miss but took a photo of the abbey as we drove by!

We stopped at Ybbs am der Donau for a lunch break then drove to Ardagger Markt, thinking we might stop there overnight.  Although there is a bike path there, the town is not actually on the river and the camperstop offered no shade which we desperately needed as today was very hot.  We then backtracked a little way to Neustadt a.d. Donau, crossed the river there and drove to Naarn, to a farm where we parked at the rear of the farmhouse, in the shade of a couple of large trees and whiled away the afternoon doing as little as possible.

There was a shower available to guests so we made good use of that to cool ourselves down.  In the late afternoon, when the temperature had dropped a couple of degrees, we rode the bikes to nearby Au a.d. Donau and relaxed in a cafe overlooking the river and enjoyed a beer and a light snack.  It was a pleasant ride back to the farm and later the rain came, bringing a cool change.
