Ebensee and Gmunden

Wednesday, 8th July.
Another change in plans!  We decided to abandon the idea of riding along the Danube, at least for the moment, and instead head south west to Ebensee at the bottom of Traunsee, a large lake east of Salzburg.  There is a cable car at Gmunden at the top of the lake which unfortunately was not operating when we called in, the town was very busy so we did not stop but but drove directly to Ebensee, about a 15km drive.  It was a very pretty drive and we parked at the camperstop with glimpses of the lake.  Shortly after we arrived, had lunch and a walk around the waterfront, it started to drizzle but we bravely donned rainjackets and crossed the main road into the town.  There was not much happening in the town, we enjoyed wandering through the narrow streets but cut the visit short when the rain came with a vengeance, hurrying back 'home' where we played Uno until it eased.  We then walked to the railway station, armed with umbrellas, and caught a train into Gmunden, which by this time was a lot quieter than earlier and so we were able to stroll around at leisure, and treated ourselves to a meal at a cafe by the water before returning on the train, a twenty minute journey.
We wore jeans and jumpers today, it's hard to believe that we were sweltering yesterday!  Happily, the forecast is for temperatures in the mid twenties for the next week.
