BAD ABBACH to RIEDENBURG : 38kms

Sunday, 13th May, 2018.

The day began with phone calls from sons and daughters and grandchildren in Sydney,  and after breakfast and locking up as per instructions, we left Bad Abbach on the way to Riedenburg on the Main-Donau Canal,

having just this morning changed our plan to follow the Danube to Donauworth, instead opting to follow the canal for a day or two before going via the Altmuhl River to ultimately connect with the Tauber River.

It was a very pretty ride and most enjoyable, we stopped and talked to two Dutch ladies who were riding from Vienna to Amsterdam, averaging 70 to 80 kms per day with pedal power only, and the older of the two was 75 which kind of puts our effort into the shade!

We stopped in Essing for a lovely birthday lunch before continuing on to Riedenburg where we secured accommodation for the night.

Neither of us was hungry enough for an evening meal so we shared a snack washed down with beer and wine, followed by an f.a.ice cream which was absolutely delicious.

There was a celebration held in the town this weekend to commemorate 150 years of the fire service and there was a party going on at the pub next door, with singing and drinking and laughter till rather late...it's good to hear people enjoying themselves but we had to shut the noise out in order to sleep.
