Sunday, 29th April, 18.
We left Devin at a little before 6.30am for a leisurely ride into Bratislava in order to catch the 8am ferry to Vienna.
At that time of the morning and being Sunday, there was little traffic, a glorious morning and we arrived in plenty of time to collect and pay for the tickets we'd ordered on line.
The ferry left on time and we sat back to enjoy the relaxing cruise along the Danube, going past Devin (unfortunately the Vienna ferry doesn't call in there, hence the ride into the city)
and after about 20 minutes in the lock just before reaching Vienna, we arrived at the ferry port at 9.50am.
We'd already decided against going into the city, we have been there before, albeit many years ago, found the cycle path without any difficulty
and headed off towards our overnighter in Tulln, stopping for our morning coffee in nearby Nussdorf.
There were plenty of people of all ages on the path, the youngest would probably have been about three, learning road rules from parents and looking as if they'd been riding since birth!
We had a lunch break at Klosterneuburg, stopping at an imbiss for a kase/schinken toast (cheese and ham toastie) each
then continued along the excellent cycle path
until we reached Tulln where the 400kms registered on my bike. Mike's shows a few more kms as he has done a couple of solo shopping and scouting trips.
After settling in to our room, we cycled to the tennis club (without the bags on the back, the bikes were soooo much lighter) for dinner, as recommended by our host, Yuri. We'll have to start ordering one meal to share I think, the servings are enormous!
