Ruhetag! (Rest Day!)
After breakfast this morning we farewelled Shane and Lyn as they left on their journey to Budapest. Lovely ladies who quickly earned our admiration for their 'get up and go'.
Once again, it was a sunny day, perfect for getting washing dry. Unfortunately, it had to be done by hand (my hands that is) as there is no washing machine available and no laundromat that we could find. We left the washing hanging in the sunshine and rode into town to the Engelszell Monastery, built in the 18th century, a magnificent building in the rococo style. Of all the churches we've seen, this is probably the best and none of the many photos we took could do it justice.
Nearby is a lovely little cafe where we forced ourselves to partake of coffee and an excellent f.a.c.c. each.
It was about 1pm and as we needed a few things from the supermarket, which closes between 12 and 2pm, we decided to revisit the imbiss, have a cold drink and sit by the river to while away the time but the imbiss was closed! Monday ruhetag for them too. We sat by the river anyway, watching the passing parade and at one stage were approached by a young Auckland woman who asked directions to the monastery. Happy to be able to oblige, we chatted to her for 15 or twenty minutes, in which time we discovered that she lives and works in London, was staying in Passau for a few days and was riding daily to different destinations along the Danube and Inn Rivers.
After we'd done the shopping, we returned 'home', spending the rest of the afternoon relaxing. A true ruhetag which we enjoyed immensely.
The view from 'our place'.
