Day 12 : TUESDAY : 4th October.
The sun was shining brightly when we left Hochenschwand this morning. First stop Aldi to replenish supplies then on to Waldshut.

Passing by lush farming land |
Along the road to Wandshut, |
a large town which we exited as soon as we possibly could, it was chaotic...I think mostly from people going to work, it was that time of day. We stopped at a post office near the Norma supermarket in nearby Tiengen to try to send a small parcel home but the cost was astronomical, so we had coffee and cake in Norma's bakery cafe and will take the parcel home with us. After spending quite some time trying to sort the parcel postage, we set off to Hohentengen where we spied an imbiss (snack food cafe/kiosk) and decided that we needed some hot chips. Having bought the chips, we headed back to a park we'd passed, but took a wrong turn and so had an accidental brief visit to Switzerland, lasting about 5 minutes from the time we crossed the Rhine until we were able to execute a u-turn to recross into Germany.

where we watched several aeroplanes flying in and out of Zurich while sharing our chips with Sydney and Boris, a very pleasant interlude

For the next few hours, we enjoyed driving in and around the South Black Forest, through lovely countryside and equally lovely villages, ending our day of travel in Lauchringen and enjoying the mid afternoon sunshine, a walk across the River Wutach and a little snooze. Mike even donned his shorts!
Day 13 : WEDNESDAY : 5th October.
A misty morning, |
which lasted until midday when the sun eventually broke through, clearing the haze away and warming up the atmosphere.
We had to pass by Stein am Rhein, Switzerland on the way to today's ultimate destination so, although we had been there before, several years ago, with good friends Robyn & Laurie, we decided to stop and have a wander through the old town, spending a couple of hours there reliving happy memories.
We arrived a little before 11am and although there were many cars and a couple of buses in the car park, there weren't many people in the town and few shops were open. That all changed an hour or so later, when more people poured in and the cafes and shops opened. |
We revisited the imbiss we'd visited on our last visit, Mike ordering his favourite, curry wurst and I had bratwurst.
From Stein am Rhein it's not far along the river to Ohningen.
We drove down the narrow lane to the Landplatz Kiosk/Cafe |
where we had coffee and apple strudel.....the kiosk lady was horrified when she realised we had a motorhome and told us we were not allowed to park there, the mayor could fine us 30euros for doing so. We had seen a No Camping sign on our way in but no mention of parking, we were leaving anyway so weren't concerned.
Radolfzell on Bodensee (Germany's share of Lake Constance) was our next port of call,
visiting the ferry port |
and the old town, having a rest accompanied by drinks at a cafe/bar before leaving to return to Lauchringen,
Stopping on the way at Wangen where there is a replica of an ancient stilt house |
driving through Schaffhausen
and lush farming country.
